[DC - Arlington] Ray's Hell Burger (Ray's to the Third)

Soul Burger Number One
Sometimes in selecting restaurants, I go by the thought, "if it's good enough for President Obama, it's good enough for me." This is why I chose to go to Ray's Hell Burger the first time - President Obama had been photographed eating at Ray's Hell Burger - and because I really wanted a specialty burger.

Ray's Hell Burger has about 10 specialty burgers, available in a small (little devil) size and large (big devil) size. The little devil size is 1/3 pound and the big devil size is the 10 ounces.

I was really in the mood for a bacon, mushroom, and swiss burger, so I selected the "Soul Burger Number One," in the little devil size ($9.99) and also selected a side of the sweet potato fries ($3). The Soul Burger is topped with applewood smoked bacon, cognac and sherry-sautéed mushrooms and onions, and Swiss cheese.

The beef is made of 100% premium steak, ground in-house, and patties are formed multiple times throughout the day. This burger was super delicious, very juicy and handcrafted.

Since I first went, the restaurant has been revamped, changing from just serving burgers to a kind of hybrid of the former Ray's Hell Burger and the Ray's Steaks. The menu has expanded, now including additional sandwich and steak options.

Other items ordered were the Brimstone Burger, which is topped with house-made chili, jalapenos, cheddar cheese, and raw onions.

If you don't want a specialty burger, you can custom order your burger. Prices start at $6.99 for the little devil. You can also substitute out a bison burger or turkey burger for an additional cost. Then you choose your seasoning (grilled, blackened, au poivre, or diablo) and toppings. Some of the toppings are provided free of charge, but other more premium ingredients like bone marrow, foie gras, and chili are available for an additional cost.

If burgers are really not your thing, you can order chicken sandwiches or steak sandwiches.

For the vegetarians, there are some options for you on the new menu that are vegetarian-friendly, but not vegan-friendly. They have various grilled cheese sandwiches (served with cream of tomato-basil soup), many of which will satisfy the cravings of meat-lovers alike.

It appears that you can make your sandwiches gluten-free, too, upon request.

Location:
Ray's Hell Burger/Ray's to the Third - 1650 Wilson Boulevard
Located halfway between Courthouse Metro Station and Rosslyn Metro Station on Wilson Boulevard.

This was, admittedly, a little confusing for me to find at first. It is located on the end of a not very well-lit strip mall.
