[NYC, Morningside Heights] Kitchenette (Brunch)

Kitchenette is a breakfast and brunch spot near Columbia University.

So, I think I have established that my favorite meal is brunch, even though I'm not a huge fan of breakfast and my favorite food is ramen.

Well, during my time at Columbia, especially during exam season, I needed to find a brunch spot that was relatively nearby. I heard about Kitchenette one day and decided to check it out. Oddly enough, it was also listed in my friend's Korean tour book.
I know you can't judge a book by its cover, but can you judge a café by its entryway?
Kitchenette is super cute. When you enter, there is a cake case and a soda fountain-esque counter. Super cute.

My friend ordered the waffle and a peppermint hot chocolate (since those were recommended in the tour book). I ordered the Kitchenette Special (biscuit with eggs and cheese) and coffee.

Kitchenette is popular for its waffles and hot chocolate (according to the guidebook). I guess I would have to agree. The waffle was moist, but still crisp and the batter was pretty flavorful. According to the server, they are also known for their homemade biscuits, hence my order. The biscuit was very moist and not overly flour-y. The cheese was a little disappointing, in my opinion. I mean I prefer not to eat American cheese singles, but when I do, I would prefer they are melted completely.

Overall, the meal was okay, but not sure I would go back after our brunch since there are so many more delicious restaurants in the area. It is kind of overpriced, even for NYC, since it was nothing that I couldn't make at home and in larger quantities..

The atmosphere is decent. They have decorated it with cute kitschy sort of finds.

It is located at 1272 Amsterdam Avenue. The nearest subway stops are 116-Columbia University (1) and 125th (1, A, C).
